About villa Cherven
Villa Cherven is located 2.5km from the town of Teteven in the Vasilovska Mountain. The surrounding area is Konski Dol (Horse Valley), located between the valley of “Vrah Cherven” (Red Peak, 1221m) and “Vrah Kon” (Horse Peak). The family guesthouse, “Villa Cherven” (Red Villa), officially opened on St.George’s Day in 2008.
It has been breeding American and Rainbaw trout since 1991. The guesthouse has 10 rooms, a small three-star restaurant, workshop studio, and a sauna.
We offer eco-tourism with beautiful views near Teteven. The diversion from the road is located 1.5km after the town center (the square), the turnoff to the left is at the “Toplika” fountain, opposite the “Detelina” (Clover) kindergarten (there is a sign). Any local could direct you to the fishponds of “Villa Cherven”, Konski Dol area.
“Villa Cherven” has 10 rooms. The restaurant and bar, along with the patios can hold roughly 50 guests. The apartment, studio, and the eight (8) rooms are with 200x200cm beds, included breakfast, and available to accommodate the stay of small groups and families.
The restaurant offers mainly grandma’s homemade specialties, emphasizing the varieties of delicious trout. From the fish stew Teteven Brine to Trout Baked on a Tile, everyone is welcome to lunch, dinner, or just to admire the nature and fishponds.
Guests of “Villa Cherven” are able to take a stroll to the Konski Dol Area on foot (30-40min). The path is through the forest, full with river stones and milled asphalt. It is passable for taller cars, but we recommend 4x4s or jeeps.
The basement under the workshop is an atelier/workshop for children and adults. We have been holding “ART Plein Air Villa Cherven” annually since 2016, with the support of the Teteven municipality.
Throughout the year we organize mobile art events, with a goal of creating a summer art academy.
Contemporary Art
The gallery at the “Saglasie” Community Center at the Teteven Municipality offers both temporary and permanent exhibitions of local artists related to the town’s history. The “Strelec Art” Gallery showcase modern art by artists from all over Bulgaria. It organizes joint and solo exhibitions throughout the entire year.
The Teteven area is rich in natural landmarks. The picturesque and diverse terrain offers wonderful and irreplaceable flora and fauna. Massive centuries-old trees, meadows, waterfalls, cliffs, and caves exhibit incredible natural features.
A great variety of over 600 species of flowers thrive in the “Tsarichina” (Queen) reserve, some included in the Red Book of Bulgaria preserved areas, the Central Balkan National Park.
Eco-tourist trails leads to the neighboring “Boatin” and “Kozya Stena” (Goat Wall) reserves. The “Georgi Benkovski”, “Momina Polyana” (Lily of the Valley), “Echo”, and “Vezhen” huts are available for hiking in the Central Balkan region. The “Cherniyat Rut” (The Black Hill) protected area (“Ribaritsa” (Fisherman) Village, “Vasilyov” Mountain) is a true paradise for ornithologists, where protected species of birds and wild animals can be observed. The “Vasilyov” Hut is also accessible only an hour from the “Bogoya” Pass, in the direction of the “Troyanski”(Trojan) Pass. The marked trails around Teteven offer walks through pristine areas, the view from “Vrah Cherven”(Red Peak) offers a bird’s eye view of the entire valley of the town of Teteven, whose route including climbing the ridge is roughly hours for a group of 2-5 people. The “Opasniyat Zab”(Dangerous Tooth) shelter, Waterfall “Skoka”, Chapel “Pokrov Bogorodichen” on peak peak “Ostrich”, Peak “Treskavec” and Peak “Pertrahilya”, “Shumeno Bardo” hill, offer some of the most picturesque views in the town! The “Kukata” (The Hook) Area starting from the village of “Glogovo”, offers 5 routes, the steepest of which is through a narrow rocky canyon to a unique view over the valley of the villages “Glogovo” and “Gradeshnitsa”.
Historical landmarks in Teteven are the Historical Museum “Sava Mladenov”, the Monastary “St. Illiya” (built in the 14th century), and the Glozhen Monastary “St. Georgi” (built in the 13th century by the Ukranian Prince “Glozh”, during the time of Tsar Ivan Asen ll)
Houses of historical importance are the “Bobevska”, “Iorgova”, and the “Hadzhi Ivanova” houses. Of historical interest are the death site of Georgi Benkovski, the “Kostina” locality in “Ribaritsa” and the monument of “Sava Mladenov” in the same area. The “Benkovska” Cave in the village of “Cherni Vit” is an emblematic place connected to the history of the April Uprising: the preserved authentic house-museum of Vasil Levski, located in the village of “Golyam Izvor” (Large Spring), is where the first district revolutionary committee in Bulgaria was created by the Apostle of Freedom, Vasil Levski.
On unique beach on the River “Vit”, there are several places where you can cool off: the natural blue pool next to the Hotel Fedora, the “Prosechenik” area (a little more difficult to access), “Semeiniya Vir” (The Family Spring) area--a shallow and spread out section of the River “Vit”, the River “Koznica” natural pool—much colder than the aforementioned locations—on the way to the “Skoka” waterfall.
